Default New law against bonking fish?

So a buddy of mine is attempting to convince me that the troopers will now fine anglers for bonking fish with rocks, sticks, or throwing them in a cooler without dispatching them first... Can't find anything online. This has gotta be a crock....... What else are you supposed to Use? Death ray? Taser? Pistol?

I use either a .454 casull with solids or a taser. You definitely need them to be out of the water if you tase them. Think "electro-shock" fishing.... I hear the Feds may make it legal on the kenai...

Oh, that's what you meant by bonking. I was thinking about what my neighbor does with chickens

I have never been a fish bonker, I see people beating fish like they owe them money and then they complain about mushy fish. I simply reach in and tear loose one side of the gills and let them bleed out, they die quickly and the flesh is much better by not being beat to crap and removing the blood. Not judging anyone, just how I roll.

I give halibut a quick smack so they don't destroy my tackle or ankles but I either pop em with a knife right behind the gil plate to cut that artery or pop BOTH gills. The less blood the better.

But I agree, he's pulling your leg.

I bonk all my fish prior to bringing them out of the water. I don't want them thrashing around in the fish box bruising the meat. After I get them in the box I cut the gills and tail to bleed them out.

Yup...no more bonking with sticks or rocks. Also, no more metal hooks, only allowed hooks made of bone or babinga wood. Don't get me started on the new line requirements!!!

I like the direction this thread went!!! I usually cut gills, but usually only after they get a knockin on the noggin. My kids love to bonk fish, I don't blame them one bit. There's a good feeling watching your kids do thier part.

Supposedly a light bonk will stun them and keep them from frolicking around in your boat, then a cut to both gills will bleed them out as their heart is still beating.

I just rip gills and put them in the fish hold full of water - then they don't bruise and the salt water keeps the bleeding from coagulating.

That and a cooler of slush ice for when they are beld out and a man can't do any more to properly preserve his fish. I do this as well, even halibut get bled in the hold on my rig. Keeping that heart beating is key for sure. I especially notice poor handling when i"m at teh dock and someone brings in halibut. Plent of folks have bloody looking fillets whereas there is hardly a drop on any of mine.
