Attention Alaska Waterfowl hunters who have hunting dogs:

This is being put on by two of the local AKC retriever clubs, it will be very worthwhile for those of you with younger or untrained dogs of any age. It may be a bit confusing, since i cut and paste to get it here and there was a change in the original notice dates. Contact either of the clubs or Steve McVeigh for more information. There are also planned follow up class's to be announced soon regarding other training, as well as planned field events starting in May. Bud

Time to get the Christmas cookie crumbs off your lap……
For those interested in advancing their training skills, the Retriever Clubs have two upcoming offerings.

Electronic Collar Conditioning Class:
Saturday, January 17th from 10:00 am – noon, at Alyeska Canine Trainers in Anchorage. Four day seminar/class only. $100.00
This is for anyone wanting to learn e-collar concepts and how to begin to condition your dog for the use of the e-collar (collar correction). E-collar conditioning can start as early as 4 months old. If you have a young dog or are planning to get one, and are not familiar with the e-collar, this is a good introduction.

Force Fetch Basics Class:
Beginning Saturday, February 7th for 4 Saturdays, 10:00 am- noon, at Alyeska Canine Trainers in Anchorage. These classes are also $100.00
This course will provide guidance on the steps to teach your dog to fetch, hold, and drop. Force fetch is done after your dog is completed the teething process. So, dogs that are roughly 6 months or older are candidates for the application of class information.

These are both retriever training foundational courses to help and your dog be successful in the field and in competition.

You may sign up when you arrive; or contact Steve McVeigh for additional information at

After these classes, we move into our winter retriever training classes

Happy Training!!
