Default Fire lake is not ready to ice fish on

3-4 inches of sketchy ice fish at your own risk.

You might need to pass until next month the way the weather forecast is looking right now. Temps are barely supposed to get below freezing at night through the end of this week.

I have to be in anchorage a couple days early next month, hoping to target some pike on fire lake... Or somewhere. Once I've caught a pike through the ice my goal is burbot!!

Stop my shop on your way up or before and I'll fix you up with some pike fishing rigs and jigs.
I wish I could go with you as I love pike fishing(and eating).
I even miss spearing them through the ice.

You couldn't pay me to walk out there right now. Yesterday was the first time it's been below freezing for a week in Eagle River.

I know this isn't really any help but, yesterday I took some kids fishing on Mirror Lake. Both times driving by lower fire lake I saw no one on the ice. Its gotta be good by now. I just might stay away from the swampy areas. Mirror had 9".

I have seen an ice fishing tent on Fire Lake this past Friday and Saturday. It was between the island and the inlet stream on the old highway side. Since it was in that area, I would suspect that the entire lake is fine.

What time were you out there, Andy? I was with a gaggle of kids and their parents from 10-noon. Great action for the kids!

Hey Brian I wasn't, I just like that area. If it makes sense I line up the bird house by that stream and the garage door of the new building on the south end of the lake. Then fish about 100 yards north of the bird house It's about 4'-5' feet of water. Anyways how the ice?

Oh sorry I cannot read. I was about 50-75 yards south of the big group. I had the quick fish 3 with my son and his friend, a first time ice fisherman; I think he is hooked now! I love getting kids out for the first time and watching their face as they hook their first fish through the ice.

Fire Lake has been hit really hard the past couple years. Lots of guys spearing in the winter killing everything that moved, but the carnage in the summer was unreal. I used to take the dog there to swim, and the number of dead pike dumped at the boat launch / swimming area all summer long was just crazy. Perhaps killing off all those tiny pike will result in some bigger fish in a few years (less competition for food)...we'll see I suppose.
