    Default Fly In Sheep Hunt

My partner and I are planning to fly into the Brooks Range for a sheep hunt this fall. Has anyone had any experiance with Bettles Air, good/bad? The proposed plane is a 185 on floats, is this enough plane to bring out two hunters and two sheep? Also if anyone has some good tips on things to discuss with the pilot prior to leaving for the field would be appreciated.

Default 185 fly in sheep hunt in the Brooks

I'm betting that to find good hunting you will have some significant hiking ahead of you. I would make sure my research for huntable sheep populations in the proximity of where you are landing is from unbiased sources...as accurate as possible...current...and cross correlated and confirmed.

About six years ago Brooks Range brought some guys into the area I was hunting using their 185 on floats. It was about a 10-12 mile walk to the sheep from the lake, about 2.5 of which were over soft, boggy tundra. I would plan on walking farther these days. A 185 on floats can haul two sheep, hunters and gear if the lake is not too small.

Are you going into Chandalar lake? There are charters out of grayling lake also right off the dalton Hwy, coldfoot and Happy valley. the further you can drive to the airfield the cheaper it will run due to air time. ..K

Thanks for the responses thus far...While I expected to do a certain amount of walking, it is a sheep hunt, I was hoping that by flying it would eliminate any 10+ mile hikes just to get to any sheep. Are my expectations wrong?
