    Default Etolin Archery Elk 2014

So I won the Governors Raffle permit this year. I selected the archery season. I'm trying to get a feel for how many other archers may be sneaking around the hills this year. Of the 25 permits I can only account for five of the permits. Any permit holders on the board willing to comment on their participation?

I'll be roaming the upper reaches for 7-10 days starting approximately sept 5th. I wish each and every holder a successful trip. I also hope we're blessed with good weather too.

I've already hiked in and set up a trail camera on the upper reaches and found a group of cows. I'm all in for an archery kill this year.

If you want to PM me feel free. Have a great day!

No he has his own plan of attack. I'm going with a single strong partner. I like to remain highly mobile.
We will be going to very different regions of the island.

Your Elk partner and my Sheep partner are training buddies down there in Georgia. It's definitely not as fun when all the preparation and anticipation is done over the phone!! I'll be taking the bow along on my trip as well, definitely takes the challenge up a few notches man. Good luck on your hunt & you and Craig be safe out there.

I'll be distracted until then. I got two Mt Goat "training" hunts to get me ready. Any large tan beasties with large bone better hide in Sept. The K-town squad is coming. I wonder who from Wrangell got it? There's got to be a couple solid backcountry boys from there ready to attack.

I got a Heads Up Decoy and have been practicing with a diaphragm call. I'm really excited to go back and try again. Perhaps the thing I like most about this hunt is that it was created for hunters by hunters. Some guy just like me with more connections decided "I want to hunt elk in Alaska!" So here we are years later and I'm blowing a call around the house and practicing a long hold at full draw. I'm grateful for those that made this upcoming hunt possible! There are a few other archers on the hills enjoying this hunt too. I look forward to their stories.

No love on Etolin yet. I did two hunts. One alpine/ timberline hunt for 7 days. Got three stalks, all were unsucessful. With the clock running out, my partner took to deer hunting with a rifle. I went back and worked the beachline for a few days. Still no luck. I may get one last crack at taking one with archery tackle the 29th and 30th right before I help my friend Josh with his first season rifle tag. Not a super stellar year for animals being found. That doesn't mean much as the island is large and rugged and one pair of boots and eyes only can see so much.

No Love in 2014.......I keep learning the area. Plenty of wolves are on the island. Saw a Brown bear sow with three cubs. Lots of beachline low elevation traffic. It's a Very Big rugged island and the few popular access points are only a small part of it. When someone says "Good Luck" before heading to Etolin you better hope for it.
