Default Alaska Wildlife Rugs and Taxidermy - What's New

    Hello everyone,

As a parent of 4 children who were raised to love the outdoors and are all hunters, I understand how nice it is to have that 'first' animal mounted for a lifetime of memories.

I would like to extend for the fall season (and possibly into the future, depending how it goes) a 10% discount for mounts done of your son's or daughter's trophies - This includes antler or panel mounts and all mounts offered by AWRT (tan only's are not included in this offer). Sorry, I do not do birds or fish, just mammals.

    Requirements are simple -
must be between the ages of 6-13
parent or person bringing the animal to the shop must bring a printed picture of the youth with the critter they shot - (to hang on the bragging board)
the successful hunter must accompany you to the shop at time of drop off.

All other shop policies regarding required deposit, etc, apply as well.

This offer will be applied to any mounts brought in this spring as well.
Good luck and be safe this fall!

    Juli

Custom taxidermy at AWRT....here is a pine marten mount, made 100% from scratch - This is a 100% original mount. The only commercially reproduced 'part' is her eyes. I am waiting to obtain a flying squirrel to complete the mount and put on a base and better tree top.

    It's in the details. ALWAYS.

Hopefully our forum moderator will move this post to the sticky section in the near future, as I will use this to update news, information, and photos from now on.

Alaska Wildlife Rugs and Taxidermy is now licensed/permitted by US Fish and Wildlife Service to import and export your trophies from or into other countries. (legally acquired trophies, of course). Fees will apply for any import/export services.

Nice work Was wondering how you preserved that marten carcass? Or is that a taxi trade secret?

    Tearbear -
Thanks! I froze the carcass most of the way, then worked to position it as I wanted it.... It is a bit of a pain in the you know what, because being only partially frozen, these smaller critters thaw fairly quickly while you try to position the body how you would like it...In and out of the freezer several times during the course of the carving of the form...I really hope I can get a flying squirrel early this winter for it.. ...

Thank you Hugh... I do strive for detail... especially in the face of the animal.

    Cheers!

The AWRT Bear Skinning DVD is now available

Many of you know I had a bear skinning class this spring utilizing a whole black bear. The class was great fun and I enjoyed teaching it; hope to repeat with a caping class this fall.

I also had the class videoed and the DVD will be available at the shop, free of charge. I want people to learn how to skin and take care of their bears for the best possible outcome of their rug or mount. The DVD is approximately 75 minutes long and covers initial skinning cuts and procedures, skinning the head, the feet, and prepping the face (turning ears, lips, nose) as well as some general field care guidelines.

Christmas is around the corner and if you have a loved one who loves their taxidermy, here are a few mounts I have for sale. I also can print up gift certificates, available toward any service offered at AWRT.

    News Flash!!!

I am moving the location of my shop this month from the current location on Bogard road to near downtown Wasilla just off of Knik Goose Bay Rd. Starting March 1, should be permanently moved in.

The new address for Alaska Wildlife Rugs, beginning March 1, 2015 is 990 Check Street, Wasilla, AK ...very near the senior center and new native medical building, and very easy to get to. Phone number will remain the same. I also will be slowly transitioning business hours to by appointment only- which is essentially translated - just call before you come. . Which is what most people do anyway. This makes it easier for me, if I have to run errands during the day.
