    Default Short Action Length

I finally came up with HOW to phrase this question. I think.

Are Ruger Short Actions longer than other short actions?

I understand that the Norm for short action length, restricts cartridge OAL to 2.80.

Is it possible, practical, feed longer than 2.80 cartridges in magazines with that restriction?

I dunno how you go about measuring an action length.

    Thanks

Ruger 77 vs Win mod 70.

    77 -- mag box 2 7/8"
    70 -- 2 3/4"

    77 -- receiver opening 2 3/4"
    70 -- 2 13/16"

    77 -- distance bolt moves 4 1/8"
    70 -- 4 1/4"

    77 -- receiver overall length, right side 5 1/2"
    70 -- 5 13/16"

The mod 70, with a mag box and ejector mod, would feed a longer round than the Ruger 77, it would appear.

The length of the throat matters......

Disclaimer, I measured the 2 above rifles setting in front of the computer using a ruler. Both .243 win.
