    Default Question re Montana Creek

Has anyone fished it lately or have any info for this time of year. I'm down from Fairbanks working for the summer and don't have much experience fishing the area. I'm interested in trout mainly, but salmon sure would be fun too.

Side note, I'll be fishing with some work folks that aren't inexperience, but excited to try fishing out.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

I've been fishing it a fair amount lately (the last couple weeks) and the trout fishing has seemed to pick up a little. Picture from 2 days ago.

    AKTroutbum,
Is that a bamboo or glass rod?

Thanks 4mer. I sure do love fishing those valley streams, especially with the weather we've had lately.
It's a Granger Special 8040, I've been collecting bamboo flyrods for quite a few years now, but never really fished them. Last year I finally started using them and decided to put all the graphite rods away and only fish grass rods from here on out. I really enjoy the feel of bamboo and it forces you to just slow things down a bit, which seems to complement my current pace as of late.
Here are a couple more pictures from about 2 weeks ago. I was fishing an 8' Phillipson Premium with an elliptical handle (quickly becoming my favorite rod) that day.

It's a Peerless model 1.5 reel. About the loan, I probably owe you one BlueMoose. You probably don't remember but about 10 years or so ago (maybe not quite that long ago, I can't remember) I hitched a ride from you at the privite takeout on the Chulitna river right there where the Princess lodge is. You took me back up to my truck about an hour and a half up the road. If memory serves me it was a cold, rainy late Aug. night. I had a blue 18' Aire cat. Like I said, you probably don't remember, but I do, and I will repay you someday.

    AK Troutbum,
Sweet rig. I've picked up a couple of old glass and grass rods, but I need to get them out more. Thanks for sharing.

    JeffSC,
    Sorry for hijacking the thread.

No worries I more than likely made you ride in my Blue Beast which by no means was a joy ride!!!!!! I do remember picking up some raft bum but he would never be fishing a peerless :-)

I think that particular hole just looks like the one you guys are talking about. In the 20+ years I've been fishing this creek, I don't think I've ever seen anyone else fish that particular hole.

No, not this time. You got lucky, I was at a lesser fished Parks Highway stream catching pigs in another person's hole.

That wasn't even the biggest fish of the day. My grayling were bigger than your bow!

I've seen this trick before. How many inches is the fold in that tape under the fish?
