Default Memorial day weekend trip in seward

Headed out to driftwood bay for this past long weekend out from seward. Went out in search of halibut and rockfish fish. Did pretty well, with limits on both saturday and sunday. Did notice that our normal halibut spots where not producing halibut but instead cod and arrow tooth so headed all the way out to cape junken and found some nice action. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

This is the earliest that I have fished seward. Is it normal for there not to be as much halibut action closer to seward for this time of year?PART_1401234553658_IMG_0328.jpg_2.jpgPART_1401234540833_IMG_4178.jpg.jpeg

I was out at Junken on Saturday and Sunday. Did okay with chickens on Sat, but got skunked on sunday. Sunday was a bit nasty for my little searunner. Were you anchored or drifting? How deep were you fishing?

After the troller went by on Saturday the fishing slowed way down for us. We finally got our last fish, but it took a while. Nothing of size though - bock bock for us.

[QUOTE=Bullelkklr;1397420] Were you anchored or drifting? How deep were you fishing?

We tried drifting for a bit with little to no success. Then anchored up and didn't have to wait very long. The bite was fast once they got there and it lasted the entire time. On Saturday we started around pinnacle and made our way out to junken. We fished in about 250ft of water when the chicken bite was on. We had also tried the deepest part of Puget bay but only got yellow eye. Did find a nice rockfish spot though.

Thanks Rob, I am planning on leaving the boat down there for the rest of the summer once bear season stops on the 10th in pws. Are you planning any trips to Seward this year?

pinnacle is in between johnstone and Whidbey bay at the tip of cape Fairfield. For some reason there where a ton of arrowtooth in this area, never seen that before.

Yes, we were there from Friday night till Monday. Parked the boat to close on sunday night and woke up to a beached boat.

Had that happen to us once in Sunny Cove a few years back, had to lay down drift wood like railroad cross ties and slid the boat back down the beach into the water. We stayed across the bay from your flag picture Saturday night.

We get arrowtooth there fairly often. It seems like an all or nothing type deal though, either catch nothing but arrow tooth, or none at all.

Thanks for the report...sounds like you guys all had a good time. We spent some time at Monty and in the sound. The King bite is very good on Monty right now but the Halibut were a little slow and small on average. In the sound at one of our Halibut spots we ran into lots of Arrowtooth and zero Halibut. Kind of odd start for the season. The week prior we picked up a good batch of 45# Halibut though.
