Default Boat setup and replacement net

Last year I noticed several boats with 2x4 across the bow that they had their nets tied to. Any recommendation on how far out the net should be secured from the boat? I am also looking for a replacement net, best deal in ANC area.

We always tie to a cleat up front. No board and never had problems.
Make sure when you get the web you also buy a needle and the correct twine. It sure makes it easier.
Sewing a net on is pretty simple.

Mikes nets in soldotna makes great nets less drag in the water with oval tubes, also Ron's nets in Chugiak has a good boat net. I run my board 2' past the boat on each side, it makes the nets easier to handle since you aren't pushing them as hard away from the boat. I've ran them both ways and prefer the spreader across the bow.

Do you have any tutorials or weblinks for sewing a net on the hoop?

Last year I brought a back up net and in a pinch I used zip ties to put it on the hoop. It worked, but not that great.

I just had some commercial fishing friends show me how. Took all of 5 minutes to learn enough to get it done.

I went by Donalsons, they had the nets and showed me how to tie it. Great guy!
