Default Marine Mechanic/Shop Recommendations in Anchorage

    Hi All,

I have about 400 hrs on the Yami 150 now and have been doing all my own maintenance on it, which involves changing out the fluids and oil filter, gearcase oil at the beginning of every since I owned it new. Also pulled sparkplugs a few years back and replaced them.

I think its time to get this in to a reputable shop for a good look over.

I need to have the impeller changed out for sure as I notice a weak stream last year and running a little hotter than normal. Any other items I should have serviced?

Any recommendations for a good shop here in Anchorage and/or a reputable mechanic that any of you guys used?

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

Really? I know Anchorage Yamaha sells Yamaha dirtbikes and snowmachines, but I did not think they sold Yamaha marine. They used to sell Suzuki, but my info might be a few years old. I know some others that sell and service Yamaha, but I won't mention names since I don't have personal experience with them.

I just stopped in there and they sell and maintain both. I haven't had any work done there as I haven't needed it but they sure seemed knowledge and friendly enough to spend a few minutes talking with me about motors.

From what I remember they do not sell Yamaha o/b but they do repaired them.
I know it does not make sense.

The Big D shop has the choke hold on selling yammies but the spenard shop can fix'em.

Yep I stand corrected. They repair both but only sell Suzuki. I just saw them both in their shop and wasn't thinking but thanks for the correction.

Knew about these guys and was gonna give both of them a call and see how busy they were. Just worried about getting gouged by them. Any smaller shops or mechanics around? I may end up changing out the impeller myself.

What I really need is for someone to plug in and do a diagnostics check on the motor.

I'm sorry you thought I was correcting you that was not my intent. I had not read your post until after I had posted.

For about $85 you can buy a cable and the diagnostic software from eBay.

Give this guy a call. Smaller shop, independent mechanic. Dennis at 360-6432. http://djsmotorsportsak.com/

He's done work on boat motor over the years. Good luck!

While Deweys has the choke hold on selling Yamaha, I can vouch for both Chad and Buzz in their shop. Both are knowledgable mechanics who have helped me out with motor issues over the years. The biggest issue I have had is how busy their shop gets during the season and trying to get my boat into their shop.

I'll vouch for Chad at Dewey's as well. Great guy and he really took care of me when I had some big motor issues last spring.

    Arctic Hunter,
Last year I had lowpressure on my Honda 130. About 2 inches up from where the water comes out fromthe bottom on the motor there is a 2/3 way connector. I took the hoses off ofit and a little pebble/rock/salt deposit fell out. I put it back together andeverything worked like it should!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned J. Kimberly. It was here that I learned of them and they've done my work for years. I couldn't be happier with the work they do, but they're so busy you have to make an appointment to get in.
