I toured the store the other day and was told that they used a variety of Alaska taxidermists. I think they tried to spread the wealth. The mounts look great, by the way!

I worked on the log work at Cabelas when they brought in 10 or so trailer loads of mounts. One of the guys said that most of the mounts came from lower 48, but I don't know for sure.

An aquaintance told me that one of his old buddies from the midwest showed up a week ago out of the blue. He was helping a midwestern taxidermist install a large Uhaul van full of critter displays. Included is an eagle in a loblolly pine tree. The guy said they were stuck in Northway area for a few days due to the black ice and no studs or chains on the Uhaul.

I sent a pile of deer hides and ewe sheep to cabelas taxidermists down in the states several years back. I know one sheep is in the Texas store but that's all I know.

I thought the "tongue in cheekedness" was quite apparent...perhaps I was mistaken.

Yep, they buy hides/mounts from taxidermists. My brother and I sold two life-size cow moose hides back around '08 for a pretty good price, particularly considering that those hides would have been left at the site otherwise.

Maybe Mike should start a new forum for Alaskan shopping. Where openings of new box stores and chain restaurants can be expounded upon ad nauseum.
