The Department of Public Safety is recruiting for an Aircraft Pilot II to join our team committed to public safety through public service.
This position is part of the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers and safely operates and provides instruction in single-engine aircraft in support of the Alaska State Troopers.
Key Responsibilities of this position include:
Ability to conduct safe and efficient flight operations within aircraft limitations
Flight planning, preflight, & obtaining weather
Weight & balance computations
Oversee aircraft fueling, loading/unloading & personally cleaning of aircraft
Ability to pre-plan and conduct operations within aircraft limits
Ability to evaluate on airport and off airport conditions under poor weather situations
Ability to work extended shifts and travel to rural locations while remaining within State Policy duty time limits
We are looking to hire someone with the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations
Ability to make safe and rational go/no-go flight decisions and to determine if weather and other flight safety considerations are within acceptable ranges
Ability to communicate effectively

A Commercial Pilot License and Aircraft Multi-Engine Land or Sea rating. A total of 1,500 hours flying aircraft which includes 500 hours as Pilot-In-Command (PIC) fixed wing aircraft and 500 hours as PIC of a fixed wing multi-engine aircraft. Of this required flight time, 250 hours as PIC must be Alaska time.*
A Commercial Pilot License and Rotocraft rating. A total of 1,500 hours flying aircraft which included 1,000 hours as PIC of rotocraft. Of this required flight time, 250 hours as PIC must be Alaska time.*
*One hundred (100) hours of the required 250 hours flown as PIC in Alaska must have been logged within the 12 months prior to appointment. These may be part of the total 1,500 hours required above.
As part of the examination process, the employing department will require successful completion of a flight check and approval from a certified flight instructor in the make and model of craft to be flown.
A current Class I or Class II Medical Certificate will be required as a condition of employment.
Instrument ratings and instrument time may be designated in position descriptions as required for specific positions.

AT TIME OF INTERVIEW

This position requires frequent travel. As part of the duties of this position, the incumbent may have access to law enforcement sensitive information.
The successful candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a criminal history check.
