That is actually very cool. Lots and lots of closures and further restrictions on King salmon sport fishing including out on the salt water and NO C&R in the Kenai. Maybe someone does want to save the species from extinction after all.

Dude! I've been for the fish the whole time. In fact, all the way back to my days of working for CIAA in the early 90s when I got to go afield and see what the biologists were seeing. And I was calling for shutting down sport King fishing at least 5 years ago, if not more. We'd nearly be through a complete King life cycle by now if that would have happened. Anyway, no sense in crying over spilled milk. We have to keep looking to the future!

The commerical fleet hasn't fished early run Kings for the last 10 years. They are already shut down. The only folks that have been wiping out the early run Kings in the last decade are Sport Fishermen.

Not complaining, however open ocean netting is far more suspect for the resource!

What "open ocean netting" is that? I'm not sure of what you're talking about.

I think he meant to say open ocean Pollack trawling bycatch - and er, maybe feeder bonkin by the sport charter fleet in homer - oops, did I say that too? my fingers got away from me.
