    Default Matanuska Lake

Anyone been there recently? What are the trail conditions to get down to lake? Is the lake clear of snow? How's the fishing been. I want to fish there with some kids soon.

    Thanks

I don't know that I will ever be able to fish that lake again.

Though a very tragic event occurred in that lake a few years back, it doesn't hamper me from taking my family fishing there. Lots of fish in that lake.

I am sorry for her loss and yes it was a tragic event. It sounds like she was not murdered there, just where body was found. I mean no disrespect to her, her family or other fisherman. People die on the Seward highway, does that mean you'll never drive south again? I don't think so. If the valley had decided to close the lake, then I would have respected that and found another lake to go to. I enjoy the lake and will continue to use it.

My heart go out for the family , but if we stop doing things just because of a problem that happend there or near there we would close down most of Anchorage , I for one do feel sory for the family , But I plan to use the lake for what it was intended for fishing , skating an boating [when the ice is not there ] SID

Several people have also drowned in that lake over the years. While it is tragic and I'm not trying to diminish that in any way, I will still fish there but that incident will probably always be on my mind. I took my nephew there 20+ yrs. ago to catch his 1st fish just before his 4th birthday. I've also gone there numerous occasions with my family. The Talachulitna river is a very popular river but it's translation means 'river where people killed each other in water'. Bad Bob the baker also left his victims in many locations where people recreate.
