    Question Tanning taking a year?

Almost exactly a year ago, I took one of my first lynx in to a local taxidermist here in the valley to be fleshed, and it was then sent to a tannery in Anchorage to be tanned. I was originally told six months at the latest, and I'd have it back. So here we are, a year later, and still no kitty. I've contacted the taxidermist, who is a great guy, and he still doesn't even have it back himself. Should I be worried? Anyone else having any troubles of the same sort? Just seems kinda weird to me for something so simple to take so long. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have to admit that I'm skeptical about my odds of getting it back. I do know the name of the tannery, but I'd rather not say outside of a PM, just in case I'm wrong about them! Thank you guys in advance for any help.

Was it Alpha fur? I brought them a wolverine, a marten and two ermine a few springs ago. When I dropped it off they said it would take a month or so. I called back after 2 months and they said they had couldn't find my order or furs. After 10 minutes of them looking they finally found them and said "sorry we haven't gotten to them yet". I called again after another month and they said they hadn't done it again. I think I got my furs back after about 6 months. After that, I do all my marten/mink myself and they turn out great. I would probably bring something large like a goat hide or lynx/wolverine to a tannery still though. Tanneries seem notorious for long waits, but I was upset about 6 months, and I think one year is outrageous.

Contact the tannery yourself and ask them for some answers. 1 year is unacceptable.

Way too long, the commercial outfit I have used down south took about 3 months, with shipping time.

I have never used Alpha and after talking with them once, never will.

Yes, it was Alpha. Sounds like I'll be giving them a phone call on Monday!

Oh, believe me, this isn't the first time they'll have heard from me. We spoke about three months ago or so. They've claimed to be short staffed, and my lynx has "been in the next batch" for a while because of it. I personally don't buy it, which is why I posted. Just didn't wanna be that naggy customer who comes off as impatient and calls all the time. I must admit, though, my patience has nearly run out.

I guess maybe what I should've asked for was advice on what to do if they did lose/damage it, because that's what my gut is saying happened. I'm a fair person, and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm not optimistic at this point.

If they did lose it, chances are they will give you some other lynx pelt. It's totally not the same though, as there is no sentimental value, or memory as one would have with their own fur! I was heartbroken when they told me they lost my furs; I'm glad they finally found them and I got them back. I sure hope you get your pelt back!

THIS is what would drive me crazy..........don't freekin lie to me...!!!

I guess one way to find out if they lost it or not would be to tell them you'll be down to pick it up in a few minutes.........oh and btw, I do know what mine looks like......lol

A year is so ridiculous you SHOULD be the naggy customer.

As far as the hide itself goes, I'm really happy with how it came out. The time, however, was inconvenient to say the absolute least.

For what's it's worth, in 2012 I took a grizz hide to Tundra Taxidermy (near Big Lake) to be tanned. I got back a beautiful hide in about 6 weeks. I was impressed.

i've had a fair number of hides tanned (bears, lynx, wolves, beaver) and i've never had one take longer than about 6 months. To wait for a year for just a tan is pretty crazy. glad you got your lynx. i had alpha do a couple lynx for me and they turned out fine.
