Thread: Question about set-lines in the Copper Basin area

Default Question about set-lines in the Copper Basin area

After reading the regs thoroughly my interpretation of the the regulations in this area seems to say that the use of set-lines for catching burbot is prohibited, unless you are sitting right by the set-line the whole time and not fishing at night. Unless you are fishing the Copper River mainstem. This regulation would include Lake Louise, Crosswind Lake, Paxson Lake, Tolsona Lake, Moose Lake etc. Am I wrong in this? It seems like I have heard that a lot of people fish these waters at night and set-lines are the preferred method for targeting burbot. Am I reading it wrong? If the lines have to be closely attended and in plain view, it kind of defeats the purpose of using a set-line doesn't it?

If memory serves, I believe you're reading it correctly.

I'm guessing by the lack of response, this question must be a don't ask, don't tell situation. As I am fairly certain that many people fish burbot in these locations using set-lines and I am guessing they are not closely attending these lines at all times.

Probably has more to do with the very small number of CB residents who post here. When I lived there, I was never aware of anyone who didn't abide by the regs, and never saw any unattended set lines. I lived within walking distance of the Copper and could have easily left overnight set lines like we do up here on the Tanana, but never did, and never saw anybody else do it either, not on the river nor on any lakes. I think most folks respect the regs.
