    Default Ermine got my bait!

Well I finally had a trap hit and its empty! Ermine stole my squirrel carcass!

They don't seem to interested in the traps I set with moose and caribou scraps. Anyone caught ermine on moose or caribou scraps?

What else can I use for bait? They really liked the chicken guts I put out for a test pile but I was stupid and put them ALL out. I think I can get enough out of the bucket for 1 set but that's it. I'm also out of squirrel carcasses. I do have some rabbit guts and carcasses I'm thawing out right now. How about turkey giblets?

    Thanks!

I finally connected with an ermine but unfortunately it was by the rear leg. I have been using chicken livers and had about 6 trips with nothing to show. I am using rat traps inside a weasel box but just bought some #1 cs that I am gonna try. Best of luck, this is my first year trapping and my son and I are having a blast.

Yeah I couldn't believe he just jumped in the sled grabbed that fish and took off. I grabbed my .22 rifle and was able to get him to drop the fish by firing over his head so we got my wifes fish back.
Even though it wasn't that big of a fish it had to have weighed more than he did.

Limon, not sure if this would work for bait for ya but raccoons love the catfish bait balls sold in stores in plastic bags. They come in many flavors and have a strong odor appeal...

Yes they are! Had one come right in and it started chewing on the moose we were cutting up.

Try trapping field mice and voles for bait, being their primary food source I expect they would be quite effective.

Used to use late run salmon carcasses for bait on marten pole sets. Ermine would be in them quite often. 0 or#1 LS.

Best set I've found for the little white devils is a mouse wired to the trigger of a 110 coni set on the ground along any trails they run. As they're running along and see this mouse dangling at eye level it's full commitment.

You just trap the mice around your place?

My place or for anyone who has a mouse problem. Besides you get to run a second trapline . I usually keep some mouse traps out all year and throw the catches in a bag in the freezer (not a clear bag, the wife freaks out). They also make great fox and yote bait.
