    Default Fairy ketchikan to valdez

Is there a fairy that runs from ketchikan to Valdez? If so any idea of what it costs to ride with a truck and trailer. Thinking of driving from eastern Oregon to ketchikan then fairy to Valdez and drive the rest of the way to anchorage. Would this cost any less to do this way rather than drive all the way around on the highway??

You can't drive to Ketchikan,,it is on the ferry route.

Your choices would be drive to Bellingham Wa, Skagway, or Haines and ferry from there.

If Anchorage is your final destination Whittier would be a better place to get off the ferry.

I took the ferry from Haines to Bellingham a few summers ago and we very much enjoyed it. I don't think it would be cheaper than driving, but I'm not sure.

You are going to have to measure your truck and trailer as they charge by the foot.

The savings would probably be realized in wear and tear on the vehicles and any relationships (family ;-)), both offer great views.. Either way, take the time and enjoy the trip!! If you drive, get some moose lights or park it in the evenings.. When we drove up, we'd drive 6-8 hours then chill.. Nice trip and met some great folks.. On the boats, camping on the deck is pretty cool..

When my family first rode the ferry up from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan, you could actually stay in your camper on the car deck if you wanted to. Circa 1964.
When I lived in Sitka in the late 70s, the ferry was the way to get around SE. Trouble was, even though they were supposed to be for Alaskans primarily, tourists took up a lot of the space, treating them like poor man's cruise ships.
There is no beauty like the Inside Passage. I miss that country down there, but don't know if I want to live waterlogged and growing moss again.
