    Default Proposal 201

Move the demarcation line for existing KRERKS conservation restrictions from Soldotna bridge down to the bottom of the Slikok sanctuary.

Slikok kings are on their way to functional extinction. Like a neglected and forgotten step-child, Slikok is in urgent need of additional protections. Current regulatory language in the management plan excludes Slikok from any protective in-season action. Makes a TON of sense in this period of reduced chinook production/abundance. Every step-down EO in the past 3 years has been judiciously and prudently modified to include the Slikok sanctuary… it may as well be reflected in the management plan.

Seems like a no-brainer… and since ADFG proposed it, they must obviously like it.

The only thing that would make it better is to extend the Slikok sanctuary all the way down to the Sunken Island hole.

Should be further downstream and frankly I think it is too late. I suspect we have crossed the threshold on Slikok and that component of the return is gone. Beaver Creek is another stream that has lost its spawning component. Heck we have hundreds of boats at its mouth and no closed waters there. Why? It should have a closed mouth like other systems but what the heck it is a good fishing spot

Frankly, chinook salmon manaegment on the Kenai will go down in history as a failed effort on the part of ADF&G and DNR. They lost sight of their mission and went with opportunity a decade or more ago. It could be reversed but it will take some strong leadership.

Looks like the Slikok sanctuary is destined to extend from 300 yds below to 300 yds above the creek mouth.

    It's official.... 201 and 202 BOTH passed.

Enlarged Slilok sanctuary and the ER/LR demarcation moves from the bridge down to the bottom of the new Slikok sanctuary.

Putting band aids on a major wound. Slikok Creek is gone. Last year there were no spawners when staff walked the stream. A large brown bear was taking every fish it could find. This will be written up someday and not in the distance future as a complete management failure. One half mile from the ADF&G office. Sport Fish Division has no conservation ethic anymore. They fought my petition three years ago, then two years ago and now put in their proposal as saving the run -horse crap - they are trying to save face. Too late

Not gonna argue the glacial pace at which the department is compelled to take action. Frustrating to say the least.
