I just returned from the great lakes where we were soaking small eggsacs 5 to 8' under a bobber. We were using octopus style gamak hooks in size 6 or 8. We had no problem with hookups when fish were in more aggressive mode but when not we tended to miss a bunch. I'm wondering if a circle octopus or some other hook may perform better?

I'm also curious if offset or straight eye will make a difference...and if there area differences between long and shorter shanked hooks? Thanks!
