Are there any places to land an airplane on Montague Island? I recently talked with a retired bush pilot from the area. He told me there is an airstrip on the southern end of the island but I can find it looking at the charts.

    Thanks,

    Russ

Russ, I have seen planes land on the beach by Port Chalmers and McCloud Harbor at low tide, but I don't know of any airstrip that has been maintained. Of course float planes have a lot of options. We've had deliveries from Cordova Air in Stockdale Harbor before. We don't see as many planes out here nowadays as before though.

Attachment 75123Numerous places to land a plane. Low tide+good pilot+plane that performs well in and out of 300'= numerous landing spots. Please make sure the equation is correct before attempting to solve. We caught 3 deer in this spot.

Wow, gorgeous day too. I can't even imagine watching that whole island jolt 27 feet taller out of the sea during the 1964 quake.

There's a HUGE beach at Beach River..that's where we landed last time. There is an airstrip that parallels it, but you'd better know what you are doing...it's claimed a few planes.

San Juan Bay is nice and really open for landing planes on the beach. If you are flying your self, just get some guidance first as I am not going to give you tips over the internet. If you are chartering there is an outfit out of Soldotna that is happy to go but I can't remember their name.
