Can you get on the hot spot list if you had a teir I tag this year?

The registration period for the Mat Su hot spot hunt ended Oct 31st.

If you got a Tier 1 tag for caribou, I don't think you could hunt for moose anywhere but unit 13. For the upcoming Tier 1 hunt, if you apply for Tier 1 caribou, you ( and other members of your household ) can apply for moose hunt DM325 ONLY...that looks like a pretty small area.

Speaking of the road kill list, is the responsibility for collecting the animal back on the charity now that the moose federation lost the grant to scrape them off the road?
Passing up shots on mergansers since 1992.

I thought there was a shortage of moose? Can someone explain the benefits of this, is it just to decrease motor accidents?

Here is the ADF&G page on it: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm...ses.pr01312013
Both used to reduce moose/vehicle accidents and to eliminate "problem" moose.

Got it thanks, I have heard some of my buddies talking about it but didn't really know the specifics.

As far as I know, the moose federation still has funding, they just didn't get new funding. Go to their facebook page
If a dipnetter dips a fish and there is no one around to see/hear it, Did he really dip?

Bear, you need at least three people as a group to sign up, call your local trooper post for the application

There is no shortage of moose in 14A. It has one of the highest density populations in the state.

As for the hot spot hunt, I was under the impression that the periodic draws don't start until Dec. 1st, though I could be wrong.

Yes, and they're in wonderful condition. Two calves isn't uncommon, and even young nubby bulls have a very well developed hump and the hides are tip top. Beautiful silver manes and such. Here in 14A we see them on our property more and more often, over the past couple/few years or so.

Moose here are plentiful; the tags to hunt them are not.

They don't start calling people until late winter (January/February). Usually when the moose start getting hungry and they start hanging out by the roads, then moose/car collisions start to occur. That is when fish and game start calling people on the list.

Yep. Seen a lot of moose this year and quite a few of them were spike-fork bulls. One of the reasons why I'll pass on a Tier 1 tag for next year. Plus, the float sheep hunt up north.

When you do get the call, make sure you go, as it is very doubtful you will get another chance.
