    Default beaver trapping

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out on the whereabouts of some beaver to trap in unit 14. I live zone Palmer and want to catch enough to make a blanket and have some bait for some lynx cubbies

    Hello & welcome!
There is a trapping forum on this board & I'm guessing your post will be moved there. Both the Alaska Trappers Assoc & the Alaska Frontier Trappers Assoc
    http://www.akfrontiertrappers.com/
    http://www.alaskatrappers.org/
have chapters that are local to you & I'm sure one of the members would be happy to point you in the right direction. The AFTA also has a message board & forum though I don't know how much it's used.

Keep us posted on your success on the trapping forum on this site (with pics of course!) & Good luck this year!

Seems to be the closest spot for beaver.

But based on reports I've gotten, they might be a bit skittish, and reports of the occasional cougar sighting have been mentioned.

C'mon now. You know the last time we dabbled in beaver I got an infraction.
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed

    For the OP

I have heard that there are a lot of beavers up the Deshka. Haven't been up there myself.

    Dabbled?

Maybe the infraction was for a lack of commitment?

There are already people up Deshka a ways that have been trapping there for quite some time so be carful about stepping on people's feet.

Having spent quite a bit of time on Moose Crk, above the forks at Deshka, I can attest to the abundance of beavers. Not sure how actively the area is trapped, but man, it could use some thinning out.

This reminds me of "Groundhog Blues." Let's stick to beavers, Daniel (nice name, btw).

Yes if I catch him there rootin' well he won't root there no more.

When you ask a question like that, you deserve to get what you got....IMHO.

Ask a beaver question around here and you're leaving yourself wide open...

"Simple" may not be strong enough.
Not sure what the OP is looking for. Beavers live in and around water - Unit 14 has lots of water (and quite a few beavers).
I'm suprised that no one directed him to Lake Hood.

Isn't the goal to get the Beaver wide open?

Thanks guys, I know where quite a few beaver are in Talkeetna area. Was just looking for some closer to home (Palmer). I found a few huts up the matanuska just joy riding, figure there's probably a lot more to find. any help will be appreciated. I just want enough hides for a beaver blanket and some meat for some lynx cubbies. I will def check out moose creek, reminded me that there use to be a lot of beaver on moose up by oil well road. Thanks

Try google earth...some areas with the high def pictures you can probably find huts in some of the lakes or dams in the creeks. I use it for finding bear trails on salmon streams. Tells me where bears are and what time of year the fish run thru there...
