    Default Port Chalmers Cancellation

Just cancelled my reservation for November 15-22 at the Port Chalmers Cabin on Montague. Thought I would pass that along in case anyone is interested.

Right now every day from November 15 through the end of the year is available. Apparently others cancelled trips as well.

Last time i was there the oil stove was out of service, looked like someone tried to burn 5w30 in it rather than fuel oil. Without a stove, that place is COLD in November.

People probably read the log book stories that tell about the cabin lifting up in the wind........

There is a wood stove there too - but it needs short wood, and it would be cold during Nov with it running. We did not try to use the oil burner this summer.

It would be best to check with who takes the reservations as to what heat source is available and go from there. Years ago like 1976
my first Deer hunt in Alaska was Thanksgiving weekend. Already lots of snow. we cut spruce bough and made a layer to insulate our
tent. No heater. Wow, what a cold 4 days that was. Of course being young and gungho who cared. hunting (on the beach ) was good.
Pilot said wow, you guys did good.
