Default Brown bear hunt numbers in unit15

So far 926 permits have been issued and 26 bears taken, only 2 of which were in 15c.
Additionally 22 DLP's have been reported, 4 of which were in 15c.

Wow, 22 DLPs? I had no idea it was that common.

Thanks for keeping us informed Dave. This is interesting stuff.

For comparison, last year at this time there had been ten or eleven.

What I would like to know........or suggest they start keeping track of, is how many DLP's are by non-residents.

    A couple of questions Dave:

    1) Why more DLP's this year? Is it because it took so long for summer to arrive?

    2) Is the State able to utilize the DLP salvaged hides? If so how?

I'm suprised that more 15C locals haven't taken the opportunity to deal with problem bears in their area. It sounds like many of the permit holders are just folks out fishing or whatever that want to be prepared if they trip over a 10 footer. The thought has crossed my mind but I'd rather take one in a more sporting manner unless it is in my back yard.

The State sells the hides at the Fur Rondy in Feb.

The best hunting will be now (With the heavy frost last night) And forward as the leaves come off a Alder & Willow bushes, increasing visibility. The later one wait the better the hide will be.

Note also that bears are DLP'ed for damaging buildings, equipment, livestock, vehicles and other private property.

In 2012 10 were taken under hunting regs, half at Russian lakes.
4 non hunting( DLP), 3 in cooper landing

In 2013 3 hunting 1 on Russian river, 4 DLP's spread out all over. These numbers may not be up-to-the-minute.

A quick look at DLP records does not show any non-res in the last 4 years.
