Default FYI Eklutna Lake ATV closure

Just left the lake and it looks as though park officials have since closed the lake to wheelers as of the Sep 13th. Signs that were posted say it is due to trails being flooded out. Kinda surprised no one else has posted this...but hopefully this saves someone from hauling their rig out there for no reason!

Eklutna Lakeside Trail reopened to ATVs
(Anchorage, AK) The Eklutna Lakeside Trail at Eklutna Lake in Chugach State Park has been reopened to the use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), Sundays thru Wednesdays. While Eklutna Lake remains at flood stage, the water level is dropping, allowing the trail restriction to be lifted.

The beginning half-mile of the Lakeside Trail is no longer flooded, though portions are now narrower due to erosion. At the south end of the lake, near mile 8 of the trail, 24 inches of water covers the trail in a 40-yard section, with no alternate dry route around. Trail users traveling past this point should be prepared to get wet.

The public is strongly encouraged to use caution while recreating at Eklutna Lake. Many sections of the lower, pedestrian/bike trail remain flooded, undercut, or washed out completely. Furthermore, the north end of the Bold Airstrip remains flooded. (9/23/2014)

I was there last weekend. Biked in to the end of the lake. The lower trail is washed out in a lot of places as mentioned above. There are numerous puddles on the south end, but nothing major. No worries. That was the first time I'd been there, but we didnt have any problems on the bigger trail at all. We did have some issues getting the bike trailers through the washed out sections of the bike trail in places, but using the road was no problem.
