    Question Tent repair . . .

Our granddaughter, while camping at the state fair, burned a 10"-12" diameter hole in the bottom of her parent's tent with the improper/careless use of a small, space heater.

Is there a good way to patch such a big hole?

    The tent is nylon.

    Marcus,
Have you phoned Ak Tent and Tarp for any ideas or available patches?

Sew Unique..... cheaper awesome work too. They pickup and deliver from Big Lake area. Their number is on the strip mall next to Brown Jug in Wasilla near Lowes. I have had several things fixed and they do good work. Boat zippers etc.....

In Fairbanks, Apocalypse Design also does gear repair.

I've occasionally allowed others to use my tents, including those who ended up being less-than-responsible with them, I've used Apocalypse Design (at least twice now) (** a practice I've learned to limit, with lending now being prefaced by the understanding that if you destroy my tent, no matter who you are, including my off-spring, then you own -that- tent, and I, in turn, get to pick out the tent of my choice of similar size and quality for you to buy for me). Apocalypse Design has done very nice work. Most recently the son-in-law of a friend in the Yukon Territory threw a Frisbee immediately past my tent fly's tension lines, and his dogs chassed after it, shredding the tie-down loops along the edge of the fly, severing the entire ribbon that covers the hem on the edge. Apocalypse Design replaced the hem ribbon along the entire edge as well as the tie-loops on that side, making it stronger than Eureka had originally made it, and charged me about $20 if I recall correctly. Ak. Tent & Tarp does good work as well, but their fees are about $75/hour if I recall correctly, and I was looking for more of a budget repair.

I don't care...... $75 an hour is common. Decent work is worth it.
