Default building a mold for a fiberglass visor

my boat needs a visor for the house roof, just makes the house more pleasing to the eye and blocks out some of the sun and rain. I'm going to make one out of solid fiberglass so i had to build a cheap one off mold. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress. So far i have the mold made up and waxed for the first layups, wish me luck.

Hope it comes out great...I bet it will. Are you going to use epoxy or polyester resin? Also interested in what weight fabric you'll use and how many layers you predict the piece will require. Love this stuff...Good Luck!!

no epoxy in my boat, i'm using 1-1/2oz mat and 24oz roving with mat on the back of it (fab mat) and i'll keep laying it up till i'm happy with the thickness. I'm going to lay up some extra material for gussets that will go from the house to under the visor. This spring i layed up a cabin addition, called a "split house" by the lobstah boat builders, with a sliding door for the boat, come by some day and take a look at it.

I like that split house addition and seeing that 5 gal bucket and the other container gives me a sense of the width of your work area. Must be nice to be able to move around easily/safely in a sheltered area.

Boat is 10' 6" wide right in back of the house and from the hauler to my stern is 16', plenty of room for pots, rope, buoys, totes of ice & bait. I did the first couple of layups of mat tonight, its looking good so far.

Poped the visor out of the mold today, liked how it looked so i had to try it on the house, to my surprise it fit perfect !!! now to it sand it fair and get ready for gel cote. Makes it look like a different boat.
