    Default halibut stomach contents

Yesterday our neighbors caught a small. maybe 10 lb., halibut out of Ninilchik and kept it. When cleaning it he opened the stomach and found a very small (about 2" long) baby halibut and a long skinny eel looking thing.

They do eat the young!!!! Actually I think halibut eat anything that doesn't eat them 1st.

That's cool. Stomach contents often tell a very interesting tale.

I had a 30lb halibut this year with 2 pinks in it's stomach. (whole)

    A 35lb ling with a 15lb king. That was a shocker.

A 25lb halibut with a large (10lb) coho with a trolling hook in the cohos mouth.

We got a 15 lb halibut with a 6 inch bleached white rubber grub in its stomach. It was missing the curly tail part, and it appeared to have been there for quite some time. We were fishing bait.

It was over a month ago but here's the contents of the last 25 pounder I got off Deep creek. I'd say this is typical for me in near shore halibut.

15 lb'r out of homer... counted 27 baby crabs in the stomach. No wonder the crabs have dissappeared.

Lol. Had the plate and fork handy for scale. I thought these might be mini hair crabs. The big hair crabs are tasty buggers!!

I did watch my grandma as a kid look at an octopus that came out of a ling cod, say something about "fresh" and do something with it. Looking back I know we had to have eaten it at some time!
