    Default potatoe flowers

Im growing potatoes in some black half barrels and they are going to town! I planted them low and have added dirt until now there is no room left.

The plants are probably 2 feet high and are starting to flower. Should I be adding any ferilizer at this point? Should I cut off the flowers so the plant doesnt send its energy to them??

Do not cut the flowers, and yes, you can side dress your mounds. Do not harvest until vines are dead, and nearly rotten too, get'em before a deep penetrating frost though.

My spuds are doing well also.
My child was inmate of the month at Mat-Su pre-trial Correctional facility.

What do you mean by side dress? My potatoes are in black half barrels full of dirt now to about an inch from the top, I figure I need that space for watering. Barrels have holes for drainage

    Default Verbage

I mound my potatoes, thats how dad did it, and grandpa... anyway, around the middle of July work alittle fertilizer of choice down the sides of the mounds/ side dress, it directly affects the roots which shoot outward and upward, where your potatoes hopefully are attached. In barrels you can use liquid fertilizer or compost and get the same result, more spuds in September.

    Default Fert.

For growing fruit & veggies, use fert. that has a higher middle number.
