    Default how old is my outboard?

    i have a johson 25 horse outboard i dont really want to sell it but i am losing use for it how do i find out how old it is so i can get a fair price i have the model and serial number, but due to my lack of good web surfing skills, i cant seem to find it anywhere anybody know any websites?

    There is a year code that is usually the last two letters of the serial number. If manufactured after 1980, the code is INTRODUCES, where I=1, N=2, T=3, R=4, etc... But make sure that what you decode makes sense, because sometimes they used an additional accessory description code after the two-digit year code. So if you get something that decodes to 1937, drop the last digit and use the next two. Should make it read correctly, like 1983 or whatever.

    Now, if it's pre 1980, that won't work. check here for the list.
