Garmin auto pilot will be the best option if you already have garmin system.

Seems like too much trash in the water for auto pilot.

Was thinking the same thing. Driftwood, debris, kayakers. Be careful out there.

I just installed a Simrad system on my rig. Installed it myself and it wasn't to bad a job. Hardest part was finding all the fittings for the electric solenoid i had to use since i already had power steering on the boat.

The auto pilot is the best add-on you can do. It is like having an extra person on the boat.

But you always have to keep your eyes on the water.

At night or in the fog your boat will stay on a straight course. You can spend your time watching your radar, plotter and the water.
The auto pilot will save you money on gas by keeping you on course.
If you troll for salmon you can let go of the wheel and check your gear or land a fish.
Do not buy the type of auto pilot that works by turning your steering wheel. That one only works right on a small light weight boat.
I have a Raytheon ST5000 it works with my hydraulic steering. I have a 24ft boat. I use my AP on every trip.

I install Furuno pilots on our commercial fleet. I've installed a few on sport boats. They work well. You'll spend a little more on them but you'll have furuno's support behind them. You can absolutely do the installation so long as you have a few tips to get you going.
