    Default Boats with a bathroom

I'm new to having a boat with a head in it and a waste water tank. Is there any chemical that I should put in while the boat is in use?

I normally use that RV toilet stuff. Works great when youre not able to dump for a few days.

Does it break up the waste and kill some of the odor?

Well the head will break up the waste pretty well, but the RV stuff reduces the odor you might get, if any. I notice a difference when I use it. Others may not use it at all.

I also use it the blue stuff and the rv toilet paper. To me both are a must. That blue liquid stuff helps with odor and helps break down solids, also prevents build up in the tank.

Also, a LOT of times folks think that they will conserve water by not using much in the head. This is a BIG mistake. Water keeps things liquid and flowing. If you don't you're going to have trouble. I have used a number of different RV chemicals and the blue is good - the orange better as it doesn't make your eyes water.....Of course, not using any at all will cause your eyes to water and for you to gag. Honestly, I don't know how anyone could stomach not using it for very long.

I use the Oder-Away holding tank treatment from West Marine. I also have a label printed on top of the toilet that reads "do not put anything into "head" unless you have eaten it first!". That way anything that we dump is pretty inert. No different than going off the side.

Do you drink the odor away stuff and then apply to the head? LOL

No chemical ever compared to the products offered by a company called snow fresh. Their tank treatment is a powder. Find them on line, you'll not be disappointed.
