Thread: Why are the OTF Indexes and Escapement Numbers behind by a few days?

Default Why are the OTF Indexes and Escapement Numbers behind by a few days?

Anybody have any clue why the F & G OTF indexes are 3-4 days behind and the escapement number are 1-2 days behind? Did F & G take Friday off or something? Anybody heard any news of how the dipnetters are doing this weekend at the Kenai? I know 2 days ago there was about 33,000 salmon that surged up, bus since then it has been really quiet. What's going on down there?

Edited: Okay so I just noticed the escapement for yesterday went back down to 10,000. So that helps a little. How about OTFs? Does anybody know if the F & G updates those on the weekends? It would be nice to have a current update on that. I was thinking about going fishing for some rainbows this weekend, but if the fish are rolling in, I am going to have to make a made dash down to the Kenai.

North Kalgin site #3 is mid rip halfway between Kasilof and Kenai. OTF on the 9th was 41, increase over previous day of 25. Those were possibly the big numbers up the Kenai on the 10th and 11th.

Don't know why the data lag. Certainly they could upload that data right from their boats if F&G made that a priority. Nonetheless, there is a comm opening today for the expanded Kenai & Kasilof drift boats, so this weekend may not be the best.

    Announcement is here.

Should be perfect for the 6am opening; 2 hours after low. I like to motor out to the mouth and watch nets start to light up and then cruise up to the corner across from the canneries and wait.

The numbers are always great to confirm you missed the peak of the run I've found that you need to balance using the numbers with some optomism and luck.
Those that are successful in Alaska are those who are flexible, and allow the reality of life in Alaska to shape their dreams, vs. trying to force their dreams on the reality of Alaska.

If you have a tenuous grasp of reality, Alaska is not for you.

    data sr
Good call Paul. At some point, it's better to just go get the gear wet vs. wait for the optimum on-line data to show up in the virtual in-box. He who hesitates........

Figuring 3-4 days between Anchor Point and Kalgin Island, then another day to the counter. So the July 24th Anchor Pt. OTF fish could be catchable July 28th-29th.

I think there is more information on that graph than most Alaskan dipnetters know. No wonder I pay attention to your posts always gr8fl. I'm betting that the Kasilof escapement is so much relatively less numbers, that no such correlation can be drawn there? Or is there another way to look at it?

Yep, the other way to look at it is that I was too lazy to include Kasilof the first time.

lol, not the way I meant that. I was surmising from the other graph that if there were another graph (this one you just posted) it probably would provide no helpful correlation between OTF and Kasilof slugs; at least I can't see any.

I also can't see any OTF reason why the kasilof and kenai jumped up there for one day on tenth and eleventh, respectively. Was there data to let one see that was going to happen?

No new numbers yet. OTF page says they update every two days as weather and equipment permits. That would be today, theoretically.

Anywho, it's been three days since the Anchor River OTF>100, and reports of fish hitting the mouth last night would indicate the Caboose is on the Loose and these fish be bookin'. You snooze, you lose...'nuff said.
