    Default Any BassPro Shop insiders?

What's the scoop on the BassPro being built? Any insiders on this forum working on the project care to comment? Just wanting to get a heads up on the Grand Opening date or any other secrets out there. This and Cabelas would finally give me a reason to drive into Anchorage.

Kind of Funny, I remember they said it was scheduled to open in the spring of '13. As I drove by the location all winter there was nothing going on I kept saying, they better get busy....lol
I googled and saw the below qupote on a facebook post; Someone with a facebook account may be able to see more? I'd say they are on track for a fall '13 opening though. Alot of working going on their now.

"Bass Pro Shops - Anchorage, AK Steve,we appreciate your interest in Bass Pro and cannot wait to begin serving the Anchorage area! Opening is scheduled for late fall of this year. We have already hired a local team and they are diligently working to make Bass Pro Alaska Outpost unique and authentic to Alaska!"

I hope the BassPro you get in Anchorage turns out to be better than our local one. Here prices are high and non-negotiable. Employees are uninformed on products and surly. Hint, take your bear spray.

I find that strange as Bass Pro has a price matching policy. If your experiencing high prices, bring in the advertised price of the competitor and they will price match for you. We strive on 100% customer satisfaction, nationwide.

NICE!!!!! Looking forward to the opening this fall. Now they just have to build a nice hotel next to it and become one stop shopping for all outdoorsmen going through Anchorage. Advertise free shuttle service to the hotel from the airport reservations setup through BassPro shop and throw some coupons in with it along with specials on recommended local guide services.

Will cotton camo clothing be the standard?
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed

Oh and leave all the bass out of the tanks. Fill them with salmon, trout, burbot, and sunken snow machines. Remember make it look Alaskan. The tank glass also needs at least one crack that is duct taped.

I was selected to do a focus group for Bass Pro a couple months ago. They were doing a bunch of them back-to-back, trying to glean as much "local" information as possible, and we were led to understand that the management was mostly or all made up of folks who have lived here for at least several years / a decade. Seems to me they are putting in some effort to make sure they cater to the Alaskan consumer, and yes, they know bass don't live up here I'm excited about it. Hope they put their money where their mouth is. -Gr

That is Funny. I will be soon fishing the states waters to stock our tank with native species from Alaska. No bass, as a matter of fact, no bass fishing gear either. We have buyer specialist working on our stock for goods and I can tell you, we will have everything Alaskan. We are stocking our store to be based as an Alaskan sporting good store. Great things are to come, and we will be a one stop shopping experience.

Why would someone leave a store thats all ready giving the best price to go someplace that will only match it. Gouge a hundred and come down a buck for one,not me.
Now left only to be a turd in the forrest and the circle will be complete.Use me as I have used you

Outstanding! that is the other box store (sportsmans) huge draw back they are on a business model from other stores that SUCKS for Alaska I mean yes we all need turkey calls and a bunch of catfish gear right? Sounds like bass pro is doing it right.

What amazes me is how people complain about SW and the big box stores, yet they offer the best prices around, and are always filled with people. The small Alaskan stores might get business if they weren't always charging so much. Small stores use to be a valuable resource for info but who needs to go there and pay extra when they can get the info from the Internet. Heck, the AOF is better than a lot of stores. I am a SW fan and I can't wait to see BassPro and Cabelas. Good for them.

Dont get me wrong I like Sportsmans alot its just they sell ALOT of stuff that has no use up here that has probably been on their shelves since the store opened they would be better off doing some sort of customer survey and get rid of the merchandise that just sits there and get some stuff people will buy.

All these new stores make me wonder if Anchorage (and Alaska in general) will be able to support them. I realize we collectively buy a lot of outdoor gear, but enough to support a Bass Pro, Cabela's, and the already existing stores? It will be very interesting......I hope they all succeed and do well. More competition=better service and prices
