Memory lake has pike and should be ice free. Just North of Wasilla, Schrock/Lucille area.

Oh so there is pike for sure in that lake? Alaska Fish and game shows that it has everything but pike in the lake. Have you tried it up there yet?

Yup, kill them all! There used to be a good population of rainbows and Kokanee but they are dwindling.

That's why it's called fishing, and not catching......

Pike fishing is nothing but catching , specially when. Ur fish finder shows nothing but 300 dead fish on the bottem

I was up there this past weekend too. It was just stocked a few days before by ADFG. There were a lot of dead trout on the bottom, most likely stockers that didn't survive the truck ride or just didn't take.

Perhaps he meant 'casting' instead of 'catching'...?

I am looking forward to catching pike in the Mat Su area next month.
However, I am bummed that I can not fish for pike at the Susitna or Willow Creek areas due to the king salmon EO.

Are there any way to catch only Pike without messing with Salmons ?

Get #3-4 hook put a whole or cut herring on it with a bobber cast out into Memory Lake. Use two rods with same set up and kick back with a few beers. You'll get something to bite. It's a plus if you have access to a boat and anchor out over a weed bed.

You can fish for Pike all you want to. Try frog patterns or herring in certain areas. Can't really mess with the salmon that are not there

So are you saying that there are anglers out in the Susitna and other restricted salmon fishing rivers that will be fishing for other species ????

If so, I am quite happy just to fish for other fish....

I thought when the EO closes king salmon fishing, they don't allow for any other fishing ??

So if a king is hooked, you can release it ?

http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm...1752&year=2013 ~ Link for EO in the Mat Valley

If it is closed to the retention of King salmon, and you catch one, you must release it immediately, without removing it from the water. If you want to target pike, your best bet would be going to a lake where there are pike. Then there would be no confusion on the Wildlife Trooper ticket givers part of "Were you really fishing for pike...or kings?"
