    Default To all the Hooahs.........

As I sit here in my AC and watch my big screen....my thoughts wander back to me and my men sitting in some god forsaken desert eating MREs and wandering off to the latrines which had to be dug out after each sandstorm.....

If you are deployed and have the ability to read this, please let your boys know there are millions of us....serving...veterans....parents...loved ones ......but mostly Americans who haven't forgotten about you and your sacrifices

    We love you

    Happy Memorial Day!

    RLTW!

Thank you sir!! I'm currently enjoying the 110 degree weather myself. Going to miss camping and fishing season, but will be back by hunting season. At least we don't have to live on MREs here.

Got back recently from deployment myself. Good to be home and am thankful to all of those who have served or are currently serving. The showing of support like this thread means a lot to the service members. Thanks to the OP.

God Bless all who are serving, and all who have ever served........Anyplace on earth. I wish that Alaska would do more to give free homestead land to all who have served.

I have taken alteast 6 military hunting at one point. It really is good for them, especially one guy who I have not seen on here in forever. He would never admit that he has PTSD I think they call it, but he did to some degree. Hunting helped him a lot, got a good buddy out of it, seen him change personally.

I took two guys out this weekend, well they took me as it was the one guys boat! But I helped get his good buddy a bear, as payment, I got a bear too! He was the 3rd to military guy to get a first bear with me. I think upwards of the 9th person to get their first bear with me. For these two gents this past long weekend, it was totally my pleasure to hang out with you guys and show you around my favorite spot and have some quality time away from the city life!

Thanks to all who serve in any manor of the military! Was very surreal listing to some of their chatter between them, even tho I didn't understand all the terms and such. Truely sounds very rough over there! Thanks again guys and gals for your service!!

nothing in this world is free, but the state of alaska does give a 20 percent veteran's discount through the land stake program. It dropped the price of the land I stake out by over $15000. It was greatly appreciated, gives me the ability to have the property of my future home paid off earlier than expected. Still a shty deal though.....do all that work flagging, staking, and brushing......and then pay fair market value. I'd like to punch the guy in face when he told me the price of my remote land after all that work.

It was more than sixty years ago that I raised my right hand and slipped into the USAF. I was one of the lucky ones who came home. My hat's off to all those who serve today, and all those who have served before. My respect and my thanks to them all !!!

We owe a lot to the few who serve. Heartfelt thanks to the heroes present and past. You are the backbone of America!

I feel it should be more like 50% off "Fair Market Value".

Some of you may have seen this before, but I believe it's worth reading again, and again, and again......

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
    Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
    In his exploits with his buddies;
    They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
    His tales became a joke,
    All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Joe has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
    For a Soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
    For he lived an ordinary,
    Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
    Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
    'Tho a Soldier died today.

    When politicians leave this earth,
    Their bodies lie in state,
    While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
    Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

    Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
    And cons his fellow man?

    Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
    And offers up his life?

    The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
    Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

    While the ordinary Soldier,
    Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
    And perhaps a pension, small.

    It is not the politicians
    With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
    That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
    With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
    With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier

His home, his country, his kin,
    Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his likes again.

For when countries are in conflict,
    We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
    That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.

    Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
    "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
    A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Sheep hunting...... the pain goes away, but the stupidity remains...!!!
