    Wink No blarney . . .

    Mickey,

I may have missed something, but have you ever been up here before?

Mightn't it be a good idea to come up for a couple summers, May through September, rent something, and get a feel for how this place might realistically meet your expectations?

Just an idea . . . . . all is not golden that golden gleams . . especially from afar.

Oh yes Marcus, I've been to Alaska many many times. Ive fished all over the Bristol bay ( alagnak , goodnews , king salmon ,etc etc ) at many different lodges. The kenai peninsula appeals to me as it has a road network and many different streams for me to explore. That and the possibility of some salt water action .However , you are absolutely right. I intend to spend a number of months either this year or next at the very latest before I buy. The information that I am receiving here is absolutely priceless to me. This is probably the last and best place to find out some of the more delicate details that have been on my mind..............Thanks for all the help.

What he said, and possibly better fishing elsewhere than what we have here nowadays. Unless you want to target hooligans, reds and pinks. The Kenai Pen. has changed a lot in the last decade, and IMO not for the better.

    I'll second that.

That said, I wonder whether we fully realize just how different Alaska is to folks from more crowded places in the world.

What was once a way of life up here has now become a curiosity, a playground, a fantasy-land so to speak where folks come to indulge their imaginations.

Are we having fun yet . . .

Thanks Amigo Will. Whats the story with the south east? Im starting to get a few responses of exactly the same tone. It would appear everyone is of the same opinion that the SE has superior fish both in the salt and freshwater. Where would you recommend ?

Doubting that it will be better. What used to be a sure thing for a couple kings in late May/early June at the People's Hole is now pretty iffy. Same with Ninilchik, Deep Creek, Anchor even the "Fishin' Hole". We keep getting worked over by the masses, and brother, she just ain't sustainable. Too easy a pickins' for the weekend warriors.
Oh well, we have lots of eagles and cow moose hanging by the road for the tourists to oggle, and the mountains are still majestic across the inlet...
The reds and the pinks are still there 'til they get hammered to oblivion. The silvers are already going that direction.
For those who don't know any better it would seem like bounty, but it's just a shade of what it was.
