    Default Merc 8hp prop noise

I was just out standing by the boat in the sun....spun the 8hp kicker (merc 4 stroke) by hand it whines like the bearing nearest the prop is bad or getting that way.

I spun the 90hp yammi over and no noise....I don't recall any prop I've ever hand spun over (in neutral) making noise like this.

    Is this typical?

I did just change out the lower unit oil - the motor has about 15 hours total on it........weird.

I would doubt that turning a prop by hand would cause bearing noise.... not sure what you have going on there, but I believe a bearing at slow speed would be more of a rough semi grinding noise...

For the few minutes that it takes, I'd pull the prop and see what you find.

Already pulled the prop. Nothing going on abnormal there. It is a slow semi-rough grinding noise. Initially I thought that I had forgotten to put oil back in it, but it was full...no water.

I am going to order the seal that is behind the prop and pull the shaft and bearing out to see what is going on.
