My coleman lives in the ocean but we got lots of little islands to hide on if needed.

But I live in the Matsu, its all glacial silt and silt flats, not some where I would want to get stuck in a canoe lol. Some where like Whittier or Seward I may actually consider taking it out (Not far from shore though as I dont feel that confident yet) but not in the Ocean around here.

You're not alone my friend. I have been scrutinizing every lake I drive by looking for open water.

The other 299,300,000 people can have it.

Over the years I have been able to get on most all the lakes here on the kenai by the 15th of May , This season I am suspect if that will happen. the kenai river is of course open, and the kasilof river ,but skilak is still ice along the stretch from lower skilak to the river.

If all you are looking for is open water, there's a few hundred yards (at least) of open water in each direction on Wasilla Creek where it crosses Seward Meridian. I would imagine that canoes are allowed there.

ot sure how finger lake looks now. If the ice is receding and you can get in and follow the edge and fish it you will catch fish. Use to do it annually and always did well.

Depending on how the day goes possibly today or tomorrow I am going to take the canoe down to Fish Creek out of Big lake and paddle up to the lake and see how much is iced out near the head of the creek. I don't expect it to be open to far since it seams Big Lake is always one of the last lakes to go out around here.

Well, its snowing in Big Lake again. At the rate we are going the creeks will all be open to Trout Retention before the lakes are ice free lol. It snowed all day yesterday and didnt stick but woke up to about an inch or so of snow this morning and still snowing.

Starting to wonder if we will have a summer this year lol.

I took the kids down to Fish Creek last weekend and the whole creek is open all the way up to the lake. We paddled up and down for a few hours and played around. I actually was going to do it again today but not with it snowing lol.
