Default Need your Vote: Extreme Huntress

Yesterday my daughter (Cheyenne) who just turned 18... (ok guys don't get any ideas).. was notified that she had become one of the top 10 finalists for a essay she had written back in March. Below is a link, all you need to do is click on it, enter your name and e-mail and vote for cheyenne if you could pass it on to your friends.. More times than not these contests are won by People with more money and sponsors than you can shake a stick at, with word of mouth and as many votes as possible she may have a chance.

    thank you.

Wow, those folks need to hire some web developers that know what they are doing - light pink text on a white background and then white text on a white background.

Or my browser is too old due to the sequester.

Or I am blinder than I thought.

Good luck Cheyenne! She did a great write up, I liked the 'chasing the wounded bear with a stick' story, though I wouldn't recommend doing that. Hoyt, maybe you should get her a backup pistol to pack...3 votes separating the top two huntresses when I voted.

Cheyenne got my vote (and not just because she's from Palmer). Excellent write up. Good luck.

She was 17 at the time and legally couldnt carry a pistol.. Here is a short story on what happened..

We spot a bear on a very steep hillside.. could have been taken from the beach as it was 170 yards. so I drop her off as she wanted to do it all on her own.. What could happen right.. Im sitting in the boat.. 20 yards off shore.. anchored.. watching her try and get a angle.. from the boat I could see it, from the beach she could not.. so she starts to climb a avalanche chute as the bear was on the ridge just to the left and against the cliff.. 45 minutes go by and she is inching her way.. the bear is just chowing down.. now she has literally passed the bear in elevation and is above it, shes looking around, its pouring rain the whole time.. she had 3 rounds in my .338 win mag.. should be enough eh? so she starts kreeping left and looking down.. my other 2 kids and I are watching it all unfold.. (in a dry boat of course).. she is literally like 20 yards or less from the bear and each dont know the other is their.. I got the binos on them both.. she is getitng closer.. closer and then I notice the bear kinda starts looking around.. I literally yell.. HEYYYYYYYYYYYYY, hes right in freaking front of youuuuuuuuuu as loud as I could.. I think they saw each other at the same time at probably 10 yards.. maybe less.. She says she threw up the gun.. (still on 9 power) Duh... all she sees is black, sees his leg, comes up and between the rain, wet scope, more rain and debris in the scope she pulls the trigger.. Boom.. I see the bear come rolling down the hill.. she thinks its dead.. bear come to a stop and goes left to a cliff and is literally hanging on a sheer cliff.. she shoots the remaining rounds at it at probably 20 yards away.. who knows where they went. .I seen rocks flying.. the bear never moved.. after the cease fire.. she has no more rounds in the gun and what ones were in her pocket had fallen out on the climb up thru neck deep snow.. so she said, she didnt want it getting away and kinda lunged at it and it scampered abot 10 yards to the left to only spruce tree growing out of the side of a cliff.. it climbed about 5 feet up the tree and was kinda woozy she said.. she screams down and says Im out of AMMMMMMMOOOOOOOO. I lift the anchor, take her sister to shore and say here.. take this box of 20 up their.. jesus.. after a 20 minute climb, she puts in a round.. turns the power of the scope down to 4x.. and Boom.. It had been hit 2 times in the liver about 3" too far back and 2 times in the shoulder.. Maybe the 1st round only got 1 lung.. I have no idea why that bear didnt die right away.. Here is a pic of them dragging the bear back down to the beach. . As you know last year was a Wet, wet, soggy spring.. Rained every single day out in PWS last year..
