Thought I would post an update for my Alaskan buddies concerning the Alcan and driving through Canada as we just drove from Eagle River and reentered the USA in Montana.
Generally the highway was in great shape except for the frost heaves 25 miles before and 75 miles after Beaver Creek. Fuel prices were super high with the most expensive "regular" gas being about $7.60 a gallon around Muncho Lake. Cheapest gas was in Alberta at about $4.40 a gallon.

Highway is a piece of cake. I drove a 35 foot 2 wheel drive motorhome and pulled a 17 foot long trailer. No problems at either border with carrying smokeless gun powder, primers, or ammo. Did not carry any guns as they seem to be a red flag to be searched or harassed.
