    Default Parks Highway salmon

Will be driving from Hope to Fairbanks around the 18th of June. For roadside salmon fishing would you recommend Parks highway or the other route towards the junction and up?

If you're shore fishing, I'd recommend the Parks Hiway streams. You have more streams to pick from (Little Su, Willow, Little Willow, Goose, Sheep Caswell, Montana) and generally easier access for good shore fishing. Only a couple rivers along the Richardson I can think of for kings and reds(Klutina and Gulkana), and they're better by boat, although there are a couple places you can fish 'em from shore.

I haven't looked at the calendar or the regs but usually the 15th of June the Parks Highway streams close to weekend fisheries only. If the dates are right there won't be any fishing for you between Willow and Montana creeks.

I just looked at the calendar and the 18th is a Monday. When those creeks are weekend only they close Monday at midnight so you may hit it just right. Mondays are usually less crowded than the weekends and by the 18th fishing should be good.

You could also drive to Talkeetna, and catch Mahay's (or the other outfit; don't remember the name) jetboat up to Clear Creek. Should be good fishing there and I think it's open weekdays, but you better verify, as I've been wrong before.

    Default Richardson

If you take the Glen to the Richardson which is the LONG Way you will find the first run of Reds in the Klutina and Gulkana as well as the first run of Kings. Bank fishing is available on both systems for miles however there is a need for a small fee for some campgrounds and Native lands but far less crowded. Time frame fits for productive fishing. Being that to date it is a low water year it should be a decent trip. No restrictions on opening and closing of the fishery.
