    Default Arrigetch Peaks beta

Planning a trip up into the Arrigetch peaks and wanted to know what info people have out there. Any information on formations, established routes, potential routes?, recommendations on flight charters, general info? Appreciate anything you got.

The above link goes to a list of companies licensed to do visitor services in Gates of the Arctic, so air taxis, etc. It's a Fall 2012 list, but should be pretty accurate. The main park web site is www.nps.gov/gaar for more general park information.

I'll try and contact a friend of mine who will know. As I recall a few years back there was an article in Climbing magazine about the Arrigetch, possibly more than a few years but perhaps in the past 10 years. I think a couple decades back there was an article in the American Alpine Journal.

One of the neat things about that area is that there is so little information you will get to enjoy to relatively rare experience today of route finding and putting up hopefully some first ascents.

You'll probably be hard pressed to find anything better online than Clint Cummin's page on the Arrigetch. http://www.stanford.edu/~clint/arrig/index.htm

Also it wouldn't hurt to post a querry on the Supertopo forum to see if anyone has climbed there lately and if they have some up to date beta.

Thanks Paul, that was exactly the sort of information I was looking for. I was also able to find a trip report on supertopo from '09.

It looks like a pretty neat area, should be a good trip.

    Sean,

No problem. If I ever get back into shape it's on my short list of areas I'd like to do a 4 week expedition to. Cirque of the Unclimables in the NWT is #1 on the list.

While the Supertaco crew can get into pretty heated arguments about social issues, it really is a wonderful resource for info on climbing in remote areas of the world and there are quite a few of the stalwarts of the climbing community that post there.

I think the biggest challenge with the Arrigetch is managing to time your trip within the narrow weather window of summer in the Arctic. Good luck with your trip and it would be great if you could post a trip report when you get back.

Be sure to click the "photo" link. Sounds awesome.

I was fortunate enough to do some helicopter work up there a couple years ago - incredible peaks for sure.
    Cheers,

You might try Wright Air Service. Coyote Air out of Coldfoot also flies people into that area: http://flycoyote.com/uncategorized/f...rigetch-peaks/
