Default need alittle help with boat repair.

I have a 1991 24' bayliner trophy with a 5.7L engine. I need to replace the whole lower unit. who here in town can sell and install one for me. I talked to storm chasers in seward and they wanted $2250 which I thought was outragious. Need some help on who to talk to and where to go. I did find the whole lower unit in quebec Canada for 1200+275 shipping. trying to figure out where to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. Chris P.S. hope this all makes sence. Im puzzled.

I've been in your shoes with my Trophy 2359, and I'll tell you straight up to take it directly to Burkeshore in Big Lake. DO NOT take it to Anchorage. PM me and I can give you more specifics.

Troy is great too, he worked for Burkeshore for over 10 years. Knows his stuff and is a great customer of ours too.

don't forget, if you order out of Canada, you will also have to pay duty, check on that before you make a decision.

Not sure how the duty tax works but worth checking in to.
I just ordered an Espar heater that came out of Canada and cost a couple thousand, no issues and no tax.

I WILL avoid odies for good. Heard nothing but bad things about them. Has anyone done any business with boat works of alaska here n anchorage. They have a website with nothing but mercruiser stuff. If there bad im staying away. Does anyone sell the lower unit or do I need to order one. Maybe I should have someone help/teach me how to put one in and maintain it. And teach me the things I need to know.

I know Big Lake isn't very convenient (I'm here in town too) but I'm telling you that taking your boat to Burkeshore and getting it fixed properly by professionals far outweighs the drive out there.

Keep in mind that there's no place close to Anchorage for a local shop to do test runs, so any work done is untested until you take it on a trip. That's not the time to find out there is still a problem...and I know this all too well. It sucks!!!!!!!!

Although a bit of a drive for you I have always had goos luck with marine services in Homer.
Those guys rebuild mercruiser outdrives everyday and are Alaskas oldest mercury shop. Their shop rates are pretty good too and they usually have the parts you need on hand.

Can anyone give a rough estimate on how much it would cost to buy and have them install the lower unit? Just a guesstimate. I might take it to homer anyways as I would love to fish there memorial weekend. Thats my plan right now. Thanks guys you been very helpful so far.

I would give Mary Ann a call down there and she or Bill could certainly give you a price. You would need to schedule it anyways and make sure they have the one you need in stock. Ballpark on mine I believe the new drive was like $1,800 iirc plus installation. Maybe $2500 total. It was 2 or 3 years ago they did mine so I don't remember exactly I might be a bit off on that.

Well guys I have good news. I found an outdrive on craigslist for $1000 dollars. The Guy selling the outdrive is Troy. Yes troy Graham. He's gonna tell us how to put it in and what to look for. Teach me what I need to know. I am stoked. Fish on baby.
