    Default Fairbanks Next Week

So I'm going to be spending next week in Fairbanks. Is there any possibility that I can pack my rod along and catch a fish? I'm betting things are still pretty frozen. Is there anything going on up there right now, or is everyone just waiting for break-up?
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Lakes still have 4+ feet of Ice rivers still frozen solid . There is an open stretch just down river from the power plant that stays open year round that you may be able to catch. Grayling or 2 in but it's not likely.

If you want to ice fish and don't have an auger with you there's a pretty good chance that if you go to Chena Lakes on the weekend you can either find an open hole or swap a beer or two for someone putting a hole through for you. I wouldn't expect river fishing (other than the warm spot by the power plant) until the end of the month.

The trails up in the rec area are starting to get kind of punchy but you could bring along a pair of snowshoes and have a nice hike.
