I know they're voracious feeders but I can't imagine the micro ultra light gear one would use to catch them or how many hundreds one would have to catch to make a meal.

Haha smolt fishing. I think he wants to target the larger predator fish that feed on the smolt.

What you don't fish Smolt? What on earth have I been thinking all these years! Dang I am always the last to know. OBTW that was good stuff thanks for the laugh!

Ice - Out; Normally equals the later and or vise versa. Paxson sometimes by the 5th of June and sometimes by the 6 of June so on and so forth etc.... With this years late Spring i.e. -28 in the morning temps and good snow pack and if nothing else changes later than earlier i.e. 8-9-10 June and then for another week or two afterwards. The system has several lakes at different distances that have our little friends making it through the system starting at different times. Call Glennallen BLM about 6 June see if they have gotten through for their annual clean up on the Gulkana more than likely a reasonable time to start chasing those Smolt.

    Just sayen.

I won't give specific dates, because I plan to be there when it happens, but I will say that when you are seeing the arctic terns divebombing you know they are in.

Well I suppose you are asking about lake trout feeding? Or the big rainbows that live in the Gulkana? Or are you saying that you are just going to do the smolt imitation and see what happens.

You don't need anything bigger than a zero weight flyrod fer de smolts or ciscoes for that matter.

Will you have a motorboat? Then I may have some good info for you.
