Default My spring project - Lewmar Pro-Fish 700 w/ free fall

Or should I say my first of a few. This is the most major one so figured I would start there. Am ready for the it be finished.

Started with the old anchor locker and decided I wanted to mount a windlass.

Mounted a 1/4 inch plate underneath

Then put a 1/4 spacer in to match existing lip.

Then 3/16 piece to cover up old hatch.

Then the 1/4 top plate the Windlass will sit on. Its wider to the port side as there is a 1"X2" support underneath I wanted it close to for added rigidity.

    Some holes...

    Fitting....

I still have to finish mounting it but this is how far I have made it so far on the bow.

Have most the wiring ran. Just have to install the rocker switch and the wireless control box and then connect windlass in anchor locker.

Still trying to decide which access hatch I want to use up front. Thinking about a 8" round hatch. Just enough to keep an eye on the rode in the box and adjust when needed.

Does anyone use an anti-corrosion lubricant spray on their windlass and keep it sprayed down?

I used to use LPS 3 on all my hydro motors and valves, sure helped keep the rust away so i would think it would protect that nice stainless windlass nicely. Oversize all the holes you drill in that aluminum if you ever want to get those stainless bolts back out.

Looks great. There's nothing like making the boat a little nicer when ya can't be out on the water.

Looks good. How do you access the rode and chain if you need to? I don't see an access hatch, since it's been covered up. Or, does it just fall into the cabin in the bow?

Nice and clean install. Looks like we will be using your hook during raft ups.

I am putting an access hatch in as well. That's next on the list.

Can't argue with that! Although I did enjoy our talks as we were sitting on the front of the boats taking turns watching each other heave ho.....

dman - that ProFish likes to be fed 8 plait in case you haven't bought the line yet. Here's how to do the chain to rope splice. Oh, and if you didn't catch my earlier posts on the ProFish, remember if it starts thumping on retrieve, push that little brass button in that is supposed to be for power down operation, otherwise it might jam.

Thanks, I was planning on trying my three strand at first. I talked to one of the Lewmar reps and he said the ProFish 1000 likes 8-plait because it has a gypsy that takes two sizes rode and you can use the smaller size in the 8-plait and it will grip. He said that the 700 gypsy can only take one size rode and needs harder rode like three strand to grip. He said the 8-plait is softer and may slip on the 700 gypsy occasionally. I always take what those type of reps say with a grain of salt though. Thanks for the advise. I figure I already have 1/2 three strand so I will give it a go and if it drives me nuts I will try the 8-plait. Thanks for the slicing doc, I was wondering how it was different than 3 strand.

What is the blue stuff that looks to be painted on? Some kind of wire protectant?

Also - why no sticky back hook and loops to hold the wire neat???? Not pushing enough data through the cabling? LOL

The blue stuff is a general battery terminal protectant and sealer. I was out of CorrosionX HD but have since got some so I may hit it with another coat. Those terminals are back in the battery compartment.

All the zip ties are hooked to the little black tie mounts so none of the wire can move. The wire is buttoned up pretty tight. Cuz I plan to send lots of big data through. :-)

Will the corrosionX stick around? I have a 16 ounce bottle that I use for my reels and such (not sure that it is HD though). It is about the consistency of oil. If you believe the can, it is the best stuff in the world.
