    Default Kodiak road trip

I've been thinking a road trip to Kodiak would be fun. I'm looking at early September. Is that a good time to go, or should I plan on going earlier?

You are aware that you have to take a ferry from homer right? And there is not much for a road system on Kodiak island

I had planned on the ferry, which I've enjoyed before. I was also planning on staying at one of the state parks

September is fine. Weather is still likely decent for travel and the silvers will be in.

It's a good time of year if you don't mind being on the backside of the more prolific runs. But with enough water, the silvers will be there. I've caught silvers low in the river late August but in low water years, the silvers can be delayed.

Weather is weather of course, but September isn't by default nasty yet.

Take the 4-5wt and play with the dollys in the streams. Beadhead Pheasant Tail worked wonders for me in 2001, they thought it was candy.

If water is low, I have still had good fishing on the Pasagshak. In 2010 rains came late but fish still pushed up on the Shak. Evening until almost dark, if the tides are right is the best time.

there is a river out of town at the end of the road [ about 20 miles ] is great for silvers in that time frame you will have a ball

Should be a good time. If the salmon fishing is a bust (probably won't be, but IF), don't overlook the stillwater trout fishing. There be monsters lurking in some of those road accessible lakes.

    Cheers,

Plenty of fish in the rivers in Sept, I've had many 20+ silver days in late sept-Oct.
